Trans Madeira: Opening minds and working together - Freeride Mountain Biking Madeira Islands

Trans Madeira: Opening minds and working together

After the success of Enduro World Series Madeira back in May 2017, the island has witnessed an increase in mountain bike events but also in the number of locals that ride along the week. Adding to this, there was a major increase in mountain biking tourism, especially in the last couple years. Trans Madeira follows the same path, reaching a wider audience, placing itself as an experience and not just a race, getting international exposure and finally reaching our local entities that are more aware of how big mountain biking is in the island. These two events got us where we are today and we are happy to keep on working with Madeira’s city councils, parish councils, local entities and local brands.

With this increase of riders on the island we are aware of the importance of keeping trails clean, safe and sustainable. More riders means economic growth but also means that our trails will need more maintenance. Our all-year long trail building process means that we’re helping the local mountain bike community to grow directly and indirectly. This is social work, this is our way to make a difference, this is the way we should go. A bigger and better trail network will keep placing Madeira as a special place for this sport.

Thanks to the support and for opening your mind to our sport. Special thanks for the support to the local entities that made Trans Madeira a reality: Instituto Florestas e Conservação da Natureza, Câmara Municipal de Machico, Câmara Municipal do Funchal, Câmara Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, Secretaria Regional do Ambiente e Recursos Naturais, Câmara Municipal de São Vicente, Junta Freguesia do Curral das Freiras, Junta Freguesia da Fajã da Ovelha, Câmara Municipal da Calheta, Câmara Municipal do Porto Moniz, Associação Promoção da Madeira, Secretaria Regional do Turismo e Cultura.

This is a slow process but so rewarding. One day at a time, one trail at a time.
